About Me

As a fourth-year English literature and writing major working towards a minor in both journalism and history, I am passionate about the written word and the impact that it has on society. 

I hope to focus my career around editing in order to help others get their story heard and understood. 

I am especially interested in children's and young adult literature as I have always found literature directed towards young people to be some of the most honest commentaries on the human experience. At its core, it is designed to help young people understand the world around them and to teach them to imagine a world other than reality. Too often are these lessons clouded by other pressures and responsibilities that come about in adulthood. Through literature, I want to remind adults what the world is like from the eyes of a child or adolescent and empower them and young people to take action to bring the good aspects of that alternate-reality they imagined in youth to the world of today.  

During the summer of 2019, I was lucky enough to be a contributing writer and editorial intern with CityScene Media Group. There I received hands-on experience in the magazine publishing industry from reporting to print. There I learned what it was like to work on deadline, how to write in order to engage an audience, and how to problem-solve both individually and as a team when unexpected roadblocks were met.

I have taken all that I learned that summer at CityScene Media Group and applied it to my current internship as an editorial manuscript intern for Ohio University Press. Since August 2019, I have been cleaning manuscripts to get them ready for the editorial process and I have been proofreading proofs after the copy editor has made their edits. I have even gotten the opportunity to begin copyediting training under the head editor at the press. During this time, I have been learning more every day about the publishing process, and my passion for editing has only grown. I hope to learn even more about the publishing industry as I continue my education at Ohio University.

I am currently looking for an entry-level position that I can begin post-graduation (May 2021) where I can gain more professional experience and continue towards my goal of getting more young people reading and having their voices heard.
